AboutVerily, Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet: O you who believe! Send blessings on him, and salute him with a worthy salutation." (Qur’an 33:56) Tirmidhi related from Abdullah bin Mas’ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and give him peace) said ‘The closest people to me on the Day of Resurrection will be those who invoked the most blessings upon me.’
Asalamu Alaykum, Since the earliest communities, Muslims all over the gather regularly to remember and celebrate the Prophet, may peace and blessings be upon him. This gathering is often called a Mawlid. Our gatherings often include singing poems and songs that praise the Prophet ﷺ, reading a portion from a book that relates some of his attributes and characteristics, and finally listening to a short talk that reminds us of the importance of increasing our knowledge and love for the best of creation, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This time-honored tradition is an enormous celebration in many Muslim countries and an amazing opportunity to show and teach our children and families how to love and respect the Prophet ﷺ. The Chicago Mawlid Committee seeks to bring that same celebration for all to experience and taste right here in Chicago. In the speed of modern-day life, it is important to stop and remember the Prophet ﷺ. He is the one who will intercede on our behalf on the Day of Judgment, the one who prayed for us before we were even born, the one who is the link between this Finite and the Infinite worlds, and the one whose uncreated word of God was revealed to his heart. CMC was started with the sole purpose of remembering and honoring the Prophet ﷺ. God-willing, CMC will organize and present a Mawlid every month. By presenting a Mawlid every month, as well as weekend retreats, we can try to keep the love for the Prophet ﷺ alive and flowing in Chicago’s vibrant Muslim Community. To learn more about mawlids, see Hamza Yusuf and Abdal Hakim Murad's (part 1, part 2) on Mawlids. |

How much should I donate?
We will gain much blessing from your good intentions so any amount is encouraged. Monthly donations are most helpful because they allow us to put on the monthly gatherings on a consistent basis. Why should I donate? The Chicago Mawlid Committee is an organization dedicated to providing a platform for praising the Blessed Messenger ﷺ, and to experience religious and cultural expression of love for the Prophet ﷺ in the city of Chicago. A traditional way Muslims have done this in the past is by gathering together and reciting praise, poetry, and songs that demonstrate their love for the Prophet ﷺ. Our gatherings pierce the heart, water the seed of love, and capture some of the spiritual aspects of this religion that is sometimes lost in the speed of this modern-day world. Are donations tax deductible? Yes, the CMC is a 501c3 nonprofit organization, all donations are tax-deductible. |
